Nikolaus Demiantschuk

Nikolaus Demiantschuk is a Partner at DBH Law, a boutique law firm located in the heart of downtown Calgary. Called to the Alberta Bar in 1984, Nikolaus has spent his career helping clients navigate the intersections of business and law. He brings a pragmatic approach and a genuine commitment to client service.

Nikolaus practices principally in the areas of financing, commercial real estate, and real estate development, and to a lesser extent in corporate and commercial law. He acts for numerous lenders in financing transactions and has a solid understanding of the commercial and regulatory landscape around real estate and development matters in Alberta. His career also encompasses Estate and Wills, rounding out a broad solicitor’s practice that covers both business and personal legal needs.

After earning both a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Calgary and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Alberta in 1983, Nikolaus began his legal career articling at a major Calgary law firm. He then moved to a smaller practice to develop a solicitor’s practice. In 1986, he became a partner in Wedekind Demiantschuk & Larsen, the firm now known as DBH Law.

DBH Law prides itself on delivering big firm law with a small firm feel, and much of its work coming through client referrals. His focus has always been on building long-term relationships and finding practical solutions.

Outside of practice, Nikolaus has served as a panel member for the Legal Education Society of Alberta and as a lecturer for the Alberta Bar Admission Course, contributing to the development of newer lawyers in the province. He has also served on the boards of directors of several Alberta companies and held positions on a number of volunteer boards, reflecting a broad interest in business and community life beyond his legal practice.

Nikolaus is a member of the Calgary Bar Association, the Canadian Bar Association, and the Law Society of Alberta. He is also member of the Calgary Consular Corp.

Nikolaus has also served as the Honourary Consul of the Republic of Austria for Alberta since 2001, a role connecting Austria with the province on diplomatic, cultural, and business matters. In 2015, he was elevated to Honourary Consul General of Austria for Alberta.
