Nick Barton in a suit

Nick was born and raised in Calgary, where he attended the University of Calgary and received his B.A. with Distinction in 2011. He earned his J.D. from Osgoode Hall Law School at York University in Toronto.

Nick joined DBH Law after completing his articles with another law firm in Calgary. Nick currently practices primarily in the areas of general corporate and commercial law, assisting clients on a range of corporate transactions, commercial lending, and commercial and residential real estate.

In his real estate practice, Nick has experience with residential purchase and sale transactions and assisting with all aspects of commercial real estate including, acquisitions, property development, commercial leasing transactions, and due diligence, and regularly provides advice to clients on bylaw implementation as well as compliance with pre-sale disclosure rules under the Condominium Property Act (Alberta).

Nick’s lending work involves representing private lenders, as well as borrowers, in the preparation and negotiation of loan and security documentation for a variety of financing transactions, including real estate acquisition financing and construction loans, on various corporate and commercial transactions.

Nick also has experience in a variety of not-for-profit, corporate and commercial matters including advising on incorporation matters, unanimous shareholders agreements, corporate reorganizations, share and asset purchase transactions, and related due diligence.

When he is not in the office, Nick enjoys playing hockey, attending music festivals and remaining active in his local community.
